Generally speaking, most singers do use honey, lemon, and even different kinds of teas to improve and maintain their voice. However relying on just one of these magical foods which help your voice could be a bad idea, in the long run, you should always mix it up from time to time.

The problem is that if you have Vitamin C deficiency and you start eating lemons you will see amazing results within a couple of days to your voice. Do note that you can overdo it by eating lemons all day long, at which point your body will have an excess of Vitamin C and your body will simply eliminate it. Lemons contain a lot of water which will keep you hydrated a lot longer than simply drinking water. The body absorbs water fairly quickly, but as a singer, this isn’t always your main goal as you might be singing for several minutes without a break. Once ingested your body will need to start the process of digesting the actual lemon and only after it has digested the lemon it can access the water contained inside of it.
I have seen a lot of people eating either dehydrated lemons or pre-packaged dehydrated lemons, my recommendation is to avoid these at all costs. Dehydrated foods actually need a lot of water to be digested, and you can get actually dehydrated if you consume them. On the other hand, prepackaged dehydrated lemons will probably contain a lot of preservatives which is also not beneficial to your health and body.

Having a Vitamin C deficiency will lead to other health complications down the line. As a singer, it is vital that you have a healthy diet which does contain all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Believe it or not, singing can be quite exhausting for your body if you do not eat healthily then your body will take a longer time to recover which will hinder your progress as a singer.

Beginner singers tend to force their throat and vocal cords way too much as they think that this is how they improve. Although throat infections are fairly easy to treat, the problem is that an infection could strike at any time.
Going to an audition as a singer with a throat infection isn’t ideal, and you might have to skip the audition just because you didn’t add lemon to your diet.
