There is not one particular tea that is the best, it depends on the taste and its health benefits. Although there are plenty of tea types but the truth is that most of them are not actually beneficial for the singing voice.
If you want to drink tea that is actually good for your singing voice, then you will have to keep some things in mind. The main goal of any tea should be to hydrate your body, after that it is good if it has healing or protective qualities. The problem is that most singers think that any tea will do, this is wrong as you will soon find out. A lot of singers ask me if is green tea good for singers, while it is fairly popular, green tea isn’t good for singers as it has a lot of caffeine in it and coffee is not beneficial for the singing voice.
Another thing you should keep in mind is that the sweetener you are using also plays a vital role in how beneficial it will be to your voice. Sugar isn’t advised if you are a singer, instead, use honey, just make sure it is real honey and not some synthetic honey. Just take a look in any supermarket and odds are that most honey sold is synthetic honey, which has a lot of sugar, and conservatives which isn’t good news if you want to drink it to help with your singing voice.
Most teas are dehydrated tea leaves, and some of them will come with bits of dehydrated fruits. As a singer my recommendation is to avoid these at all costs, these bits of dehydrated fruits are sprinkled with conservatives which aren’t good for your voice, just squeeze a fresh slice of lime or lemon and you will be better off. Is black tea good for singers? A lot of people love black tea, either with milk or without it. The problem with black tea is that it isn’t actually good for your singing voice as it has a lot of caffeine. If you also put milk in your black tea then the milk is also not beneficial for your voice. I know that there are some decaffeinated black teas that you can drink with soy milk, but if you are a male singer then soy would be the last thing that you want in your body, in short, soy acts like estrogen which is the predominant female hormone.
Best Tea For Singing Voice
By far one of my favorite tea is peppermint tea, not only it helps my singing voice but it also has a great taste. The problem with peppermint tea is that you either love it or hate it. There are some singers who do not like the taste of it and they combine it with fruits like lime and lemon, although this is not necessary as there are plenty of drinks that are good for your voice. A lot of people when they drink peppermint tea usually put a lot of sugar in it to get rid of its spiciness.
My personal recommendation is to only use organic honey, no matter what kind of tea you are drinking as sugar isn’t beneficial for your voice. The spiciness of the peppermint tea can put a lot of people off, I personally love it. Peppermint tea has been used since our early history and it has proven health benefits.

Ginger tea is probably one of the healthiest teas which you as a singer can drink. It has extremely beneficial health benefits like antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Oftentimes when I feel that my vocal cords are getting sore I will just drink a cup of ginger tea and the soreness usually goes away within an hour or two. If you have never tried ginger tea then you are in for a surprise, if you thought peppermint tea is spicy then think again.
A lot of singers ask me if is ginger good for the voice, the answer is definitely yes and I highly recommend it for beginner and advanced singers. Singers who practice a lot and their throat hurt fairly frequently should definitely drink a cup of ginger tea every day. Although if your throat is constantly sore then you might think what are you doing wrong which is making your throat hurt. Throat Coat Tea
Throat coat tea for singers can be a lifesaver, a lot of successful singers when they have to perform on the stage will drink a cup of throat coat tea. The throat coat tea does exactly what its name says, it coats your throat with a protective layer, this way you are less likely to get an infection or inflammation of your throat. I know that you are probably a beginner singer, but imagine if you would have to perform during wintertime every day on stage for a couple of weeks, you are going to need all the help you can and the throat coat tea will prove its worth to your voice.
The problem is that not all throat coat teas are actually throat coat teas. The main ingredient of the tea is the wild licorice which actually coats your throat, and there are a lot of teas where this wild licorice is in so small amounts that you will not actually get the coating effects. My personal recommendation is to get an organic throat coat tea, usually, these have enough wild licorice in them, just make sure to use honey with the tea.
If you are asking yourself if is lemon good for your voice, then yes, lemon is very healthy, as it has contained antioxidants, it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. A lot of teas are labeled as lemon teas, the problem is that most of these do have dehydrated slices of lemon which are filled with conservatives and not ideal for your voice. My personal recommendation is to go to the local grocery store and get a couple of fresh lemons.
Heat up some water and add a couple of slices of lemon to it, make sure that you also squeeze the lemons so that you get all the juices out. In addition to this if you like your tea to be sweeter then simply add some honey to it. There is simply no point in buying dehydrated lemon tea as it doesn’t have most of the health benefits for singers as it is dehydrated. Chamomile tea is an excellent tea for singers, although it does lack in some aspects when compared to other teas, mostly as it doesn’t really have antibacterial or anti-inflammatory properties. But what is good at is calming you, and this can be extremely beneficial for any singer who is nervous about performing either on stage or at an audition. In addition to this, it is also a good tea if you can not fall asleep, simply drink a cup of chamomile tea before bedtime and you will fall asleep a lot easier.
The problem with chamomile tea is that if you consume too much you will probably get an upset stomach, so if you are nervous about performing on stage make sure to only drink one cup. In addition to this, there are people with more sensitive stomachs and if you know that you have a sensitive stomach make sure to try it out while you are home, just in case make sure the toilet is nearby.
Wild White Moss Tea
Although not a very popular tea, but it is still a good tea for singers. In addition to having somewhat antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, wild white moss tea is also known for its detoxifying effects. Although this is an excellent tea for singers, my recommendation is to try it out at home, especially if you have a sensitive stomach. I had personally tried this tea a couple of times, although I am not entirely sure if I got some bad tea but I started sweating during the night a lot so make sure to try it before you incorporate it in your daily routine.
This is actually a fermented tea, what is great about it is that it has a lot of healthy probiotics that will aid you in having a better gut environment. Some mental illnesses or even depression are somewhat linked to not having enough healthy probiotics in the gut. So if you are feeling constantly down, you might as well give this tea a try. The problem is that most fermented teas and foods, do contain alcohol.
Alcohol isn’t good for your voice, but you can also find fermented teas that have a very small percentage of alcohol. If you are going to try it out then do it at home and drink it before bedtime.
This tea is made of actual honey and beeswax, it does have most of the health benefits of honey, but the problem is that it kind of smells fairly bad, and I can not quite put my finger on it what the smell actually is. If you can get past its smell then you will find that it is a great tea for your voice. Some singers do not actually drink this tea but gargle it, and some even drink it at room temperature. You can find this tea at your local health shop, but you might find that it is fairly expensive.
Moonlight White Tea
The moonlight white tea is an excellent tea for singers as it boosts their immune system and it is known for destroying free radicals which can cause a lot of complications later in your life. This tea is also linked to improving the health of your skin and some will even claim that it will make them glow, metaphorically of course.
Ginseng is very well known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, ginseng in different forms has been used for at least a couple of thousands of years in Asia. Most ginseng teas that you find in the store will come from Chinese ginseng, this is often thought that it is not as good as other types of ginseng like Korean ginseng. My recommendation is to try both of them out and see what works best for your voice.
In recent years Schisandra tea has started to become fairly popular, and its price went through the roof. A lot of people claim that it is actually a super fruit, and it has a lot of health benefits like fighting off infections, boosting your immune system or even increasing your performance. The problem is that most Schisandra teas will probably have only trace amounts of Schisandra in them which will not be enough to provide the health benefits, so you will have to try out a couple of brands before you find a good one.
